We are living in some crazy times right now. COVID-19 has most of us all “sheltering in place,” wearing masks if and when we do go out, washing our hands a million times a day…and for heavens sake, don’t touch your face! Some of us have lost loved ones (both COVID and non-COVID related). Others of us are spending more time than ever before with our loved ones! Some of us have lost jobs or been furloughed. Others are working from home. Some of us are home alone. In other situations, the kids are not in school so parents are home schooling….while working from home. Then there are those that don’t get to stay home…the doctors, nurses, first responders, grocery store employees, grocery truckers…essential workers; they go to work and try there hardest to be careful and sanitized! No matter what your situation, life has changed significantly in a relatively short period of time (can you say “understatement?”).
So basically, all bets are off! No matter what you are feeling…it’s normal and ok! There is no right or wrong way to feel about our situation. There are things to be afraid of or worried about; things that could make us feel sad….or lonely, disconnected, overly-connected, frustrated…mad…overwhelmed…numb. Whatever you are feeling….it’s ok. (ok so technically this is true all the time but it seems especially true now!) The first step to coping with all these crazy times is to be gentle with ourselves and just acknowledge how we are feeling.
