Life is Hard…
…at least, that’s how Debbie experiences it:
If she could muster up the energy to feel anything, Debbie’s mainly feeling frustrated with herself.
It takes all of her strength to just get out of bed in the morning. (Truth be told, sometimes she doesn’t.)
She shuffles over to the coffee pot and glances at the foot-high pile of mail on the table that she hasn’t looked at in a couple weeks. She cringes because she knows she’s behind on her bills…but at the same time, she doesn’t care.
All Debbie wants to do is sleep and watch TV. Sometimes she cries, but mostly she feels… just blah.
She sees all her friends’ pictures on Instagram and Facebook and wonders, “What’s wrong with me?” “Why can’t I be happy like everyone else?”
Do you relate to any of Debbie’s depressed feelings?
I Can’t Seem to Turn Off My Brain!
This is Annie’s Struggle:
Annie texts her friend Lisa about meeting for coffee. A few minutes go by and Lisa hasn’t replied.
Annie’s mind starts racing…
“Did I do something wrong? Is she mad at me?”
Three minutes turn to five. Five turn to 15. She replays all of her recent conversations with Lisa in her mind – over and over and over – searching for a reason Lisa might be offended or mad at her.
Two hours later, Lisa texts back: “Ugh… just got out of a looooooong boring meeting… would love to have coffee! What time?”
Annie breathes a sigh of relief, silently berating herself for – yet again – having wasted hours worrying for nothing.
Does Annie’s anxiety feel intimately familiar?
